Our client is a leading company in the U.S. baking industry, known for producing and marketing a diverse range of fresh and frozen bakery foods – breads, buns, rolls, snack cakes, and pastries, backed by a team of dedicated professionals, including employees, associates, and independent distributor partners, who are considered the best in the business.

Challenges:

To ensure efficiency, they operate 46 bakeries equipped with advanced technology, allowing them to bake and ship products daily. However, due to their extensive and complex independent distributor network, they faced significant challenges in manual operation:

• Manual testing was required for various aspects of operations, including business flows, attribute data, and measurements
• Data accuracy in SAP Universes (SDW, REDI, TPM BD) needed verification
• Manual verification was time-consuming and required significant effort
• Achieving thorough data testing with complete coverage

The primary objective was to identify and address data quality issues to ensure efficiency of freshness.

The Solution: TOSCA DI implementation

To address the data validation challenges, the Tricentis Tosca Data Integrity (Tosca DI) implementation was proposed. The solution began with a proof of concept (POC), where sample scenarios for attribute validation and realignment were implemented, demonstrating the capabilities of Tosca DI. Based on the success of the POC, Narwal proceeded to build a reusable and configurable solution.

The solution included:

• Logical grouping of data based on subject areas ensured that SAP data was thoroughly tested with complete coverage
• Execution of multiple rounds of testing in the development (DEV) environment to certify data accuracy
• A final schedule in the production (DEX) environment to identify and report anomalies
• The automation framework consisted of test cases, dynamic variable inputs using configuration parameters, and reporting in HTML/CSV format for matched and unmatched (erroneous) data

Outcomes:

The implementation of Tosca DI and the automated data validation solution had a significant impact on our client operations.

• Manual testing that previously took several iterations and months was reduced to a 1-2 hour window with full data coverage
• The streamlined process allowed the business team to efficiently identify data quality issues, saving time and effort
